The Jeep Wrangler was made for adventurous, off-road driving here in the Mount Pocono and Tobyhanna areas and beyond. However, after thousands of miles, that adventure may start to take its toll.

To keep their Wranglers running strong for years and years, Scranton, Stroudsburg, and East Stroudsburg area drivers need to heed the Jeep Wrangler maintenance schedule.

The Ray Price Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram team is going to go over it with you now.

Jeep Wrangler Oil Change Interval

Oil Changes in StroudsburgOne of the biggest conveniences of the Jeep Wrangler is that it comes with an oil change indicator system to let you know whenever standard maintenance is due.

Depending on how hard you drive your vehicle, this should only be 7,500 miles or so.

Of course, this is the appointment where you'll want to change your engine oil as well as its filter. During this time, you should have your tires rotated and re-balanced, too. This will ensure they wear evenly, and that you get as many years out of them as possible.

Additional Oil Change Interval Maintenance

Changing your oil is the key thing to take care of when this light turns on. However, there are several other small items on the Jeep Wrangler Maintenance Schedule that Jeep recommends you look at in addition to that.

  1. Inspect the battery and clean or tighten any loose terminals
  2. Inspect the entirety of your jeep brake system
  3. Make sure that door latches are properly greased
  4. Take a look at the engine air cleaner to ensure it's not dirty
  5. Inspect the exhaust system
  6. Check the engine cooling system protection and hoses
  7. Check the transmission fluid

Every 20,000 Miles

Checking Your Vehicle's BrakesIn addition to the service above, you should complete the following items at 20,000 miles.

  • Replace your air conditioning and cabin air filter
  • Check on the transfer case fluid
  • Inspect the CV and Universal joints
  • Make sure the front suspension and tie rod ends are in good condition
  • Inspect the brake linings and parking brake
  • Check the front and rear axle fluid

Every 40,000 Miles

If you've been using your Wrangler for towing or off-roading, it's almost certain that the front and rear axle fluid will need to be changed or topped off at this point.

In addition to that, the air conditioning and cabin air filter is likely dusty and due for a change.

Every 60,000 Miles

Replacing Transmission FluidAt this point, it's also important that you change your transfer case fluid. This is especially important if you tow or go off-road often. Manual and automatic transmission fluids will need to be changed, as well.

Every 100,000 Miles

If you haven't already, be sure to start checking the belts in your Wrangler. Some may have slipped or worn down so much that they should be replaced at this point.

Outside of that, all you need to worry about is inspecting and replacing your PCV valve if necessary.

Every 150,000 Miles

When you've reached that 150,000-mile milestone in your Jeep Wrangler, there are a few maintenance items to take care of. During this service, the accessory drive belt should be replaced to prevent wear-related issues that could affect engine performance. The accessory drive belt tensioner and pulley will also be inspected, with replacements made if necessary to ensure smooth operation.

It's important to note that the engine coolant should be flushed and replaced every 10 years or 150,000 miles, keeping your engine running at optimal temperature and preventing overheating.

Why it's Important to Follow the Maintenance Schedule for Your Wrangler

Keeping your Jeep Wrangler on its recommended maintenance schedule is more than just a checklist-it's a way to protect the investment you've made in your vehicle. Regular maintenance helps ensure your Wrangler performs at its best, whether you're navigating city streets or tackling off-road trails.

Following the manufacturer's schedule allows potential issues to be caught early, extending the lifespan of critical components and reducing the risk of costly repairs down the road. It can even help you retain the value of your vehicle as Kelley Blue Book states.* Staying on top of oil changes, tire rotations, fluid checks, and inspections also maintains your vehicle's safety and reliability, giving you peace of mind every time you drive.

Regular Maintenance Checks to Do at Home

Even with a full-service schedule, there are simple checks you can perform at home to keep your Wrangler running smoothly. Start by checking tire pressure and tread condition, as proper inflation and grip are critical for both on-road and off-road performance.

Inspect fluid levels, including engine oil, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid, to ensure everything is topped off. Take a moment to look for leaks, loose connections, or worn belts and hoses. A quick visual inspection of lights, wipers, and battery terminals can help prevent minor issues from turning into major problems. Performing these basic checks regularly helps your Wrangler stay in peak condition between service visits.
