For decades, Jeep SUVs have boldly been exploring the unexplored. With their refined performance and innovative technology, they have proven to be road warriors. One such road warrior is the Jeep Renegade.
The Jeep Renegade is capable enough to handle all types of road conditions near Mount Pocono, East Stroudsburg, and Scranton. With this specs review, you'll learn about its engine performance, fuel efficiency, interior room, and much more. Once you reach the end, you'll know if this is the ideal SUV for your drives near Tobyhanna and Stroudsburg areas.
Let's get started with a look under the hood!
Jeep Renegade Engine Specs
Under the hood, you'll find one of two energetic engines. First off, there's the 2.4L Tigershark® engine, which generates 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. With the proper equipment, the Renegade can tow up to 2,000 pounds. With the Class III hitch receiver and 4-pin wiring harness, your hooked-up trailer will remain steady and in control.
There is also the 1.3L Turbo 4-cylinder engine, which produces 177 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque. It comes paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission to deliver an efficient and smooth drive. To further improve its efficiency, it's also equipped with Engine Stop/Start Technology.
Fuel Efficiency
While an adventure is always on the horizon with the Jeep Renegade, it takes a highly efficient fuel economy to get you to your destination. Thankfully, whether you go with the 1.3L or 2.4L engine, your SUV will sip fuel to keep you cruising along.
According to EPA estimates, the fuel economy for the 1.3L engine reaches a respectable 24 city MPG/32 highway MPG. If you choose the 2.4L engine, you can expect an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 22 city MPG/30 highway MPG.
To further enhance the efficiency of your SUV as you're driving, the model comes with available Engine Stop/Start Technology. This advanced system will shut off your engine when you come to a complete stop. Once the brake pedal is released to resume your journey, the engine will automatically restart-saving you fuel in the process!
Advanced Transmission

A smooth-shifting transmission helps improve efficiency and deliver a steady drive. Luckily, the 9-speed automatic transmission achieves this along with a 9.81 ratio spread.
The Renegade's transmission can handle both low speeds and high speeds with ease. As you're trying to merge onto a busy highway, the Renegade can quickly accelerate and get up to speed. If you're coming down a ramp, it'll find the proper gear to continually deliver a smooth drive.
Jeep Renegade Handling Capabilities
Engine? Check. Transmission? Done. Next up? The drivetrain!
The Jeep Renegade comes standard with front-wheel drive (FWD) for improved efficiency. However, two 4-wheel drive (4WD) systems are also available to enhance your handling capabilities, even during those brutal winter storms!
First up, there's the available Jeep Active Drive, a fully automatic 4WD system that seamlessly moves between FWD and 4WD at any speed. In addition to improving your handling capabilities, this system also improves efficiency by automatically disengaging 4WD and operating in FWD during highway drives. If you lose any traction, the system will automatically redistribute torque to help you regain your grip on the road.
The Jeep Active Drive system also utilizes the available Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System, which allows you to optimize your Renegade's performance to meet the task at hand. Operate in Auto mode to have the Renegade autonomously adjust its driving style based on your current conditions. You can also choose between three other modes:
- Snow
- Sand
- Mud
A Rock mode is also available on the Trailhawk trim. It delivers low-speed 4WD capability to help you tackle rough terrain. It works in tandem with the available Jeep Active Drive Low 4WD system that offers a Trail Rated® crawl ratio for tough jobs, like pulling a boat from the water.
