Engine Specifications: Horsepower Torque & MPG

The 2020 Jeep Cherokee allows you to choose between three engines, each sporting high-end horsepower to go with their impressive fuel economy.

First up is the 2.4L Tigershark® engine, which generates up to 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. As for fuel economy, this engine reaches an EPA-estimated 22 city/31 highway MPG.

Next up is the dynamic 3.2L V6 engine, which boasts 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque. With this engine, the Cherokee achieves an EPA-estimated 20 city/29 highway MPG.

Lastly, you can select the 2.0L turbo engine, which generates 270 horsepower, 295 lb-ft of torque, and an EPA-estimated 23 city/31 highway MPG.

Maximum Towing Capacity

Like all Jeep SUVs, the Cherokee is ready to embark on adventures and off-road journeys! When you're heading up to the lake for a weekend or venturing to your favorite campground, it helps to have an SUV with superb towing capability.

If you choose to have the 3.2L V6 under the hood of your Cherokee, you can hitch a trailer weighing as much as 4,500 pounds to the rear.

Once you're all hooked up, you can be on your way and your Jeep Cherokee will drive with the same composure and stability you expect when there's no trailer attached at all.

The alternative engines offer 2,000 pounds of towing capacity if you go for the 2.4L motor, and 4,000 pounds of towing capacity with the 2.0L motor.

Ready for Any Off-Road Trail

Since it's a Jeep, you probably expect the Cherokee to have exceptional off-roading abilities. Your assumption would be correct! Let's take a look at the integrated technology to see how it handles difficult terrain.

Its off-roading capabilities center around the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System, which provides five available drive modes. Each specialized mode helps you with a specific type of terrain. Whether you're venturing across rain-slick roads or exploring rocky terrain, the Cherokee can handle it.

The available modes include:

  • Auto
  • Snow
  • Sport
  • Sand/Mud
  • Rock

Along with this traction-boosting system, the Cherokee comes equipped with an advanced 4x4 system. In total, you have three available 4x4 systems to choose from.

The standard system on the 4x4 Cherokee is Jeep Active Drive I. With this system in place, you'll move in and out of 4WD seamlessly. The brake lock differential works with the 4x4 system to maintain stability and traction on all kinds of road conditions.

The next 4x4 system is Jeep Active Drive II. If you choose this system, you'll have the assistance of the 4WD LOW mode at your side, a feature that improves low-speed traction. Along with a 1-inch increase in height, this system also has an impressive crawl ratio: 51:2 with the 2.0L engine, to be exact.

Finally, there's the Trail Rated® Jeep Active Drive Lock system, which takes the Cherokee's inherent capabilities to a whole new extreme.

Along with the features of the Jeep Active Drive II system, you'll also have a mechanical rear axle lock, Rock Mode, and a 56:1 crawl ratio. With Rock Mode added to the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System, nothing will stand in the way of the Cherokee!

Interior Dimensions: Passenger & Cargo Space

The roomy Jeep Cherokee is terrific for long road trips or commutes, thanks to its generous interior dimensions.

For example, each passenger in the vehicle can stretch out their legs, since the front-row legroom measures 41.1 inches and the second-row legroom measures 40.3 inches. In fact, the entire passenger volume comes out to 128 cubic feet.

You'll also be able to fit hiking gear in the trunk, due to the versatile cargo dimensions. For example, there's 25.8 cubic feet if you leave the second-row seats standing upright. Fold the second-row seats down, however, and the cargo space jumps to 54.7 cubic feet.

2020 Jeep Cherokee Trim Levels

There are numerous trim levels in the 2020 Jeep Cherokee, giving you the opportunity to choose the Cherokee with the features and technology you'd like.

The base trim is called the Latitude. Although it's the standard Cherokee, it sports impressive features, such as LED headlights, a 7-inch touchscreen, and the Uconnect® 4 infotainment system.

As for safety features, you can opt for one of its available Advanced Safety Packages to receive Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path Detection and other systems.

Next up is the Latitude Plus. This trim upgrades various features inside the cabin for a more premium experience. For instance, you'll have cloth and premium vinyl seats with storm blue accent stitching, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and integrated audio controls.

Similar to the Latitude Plus is the Latitude Lux, a charming option which boasts rich interior qualities--from leather seating surfaces to vinyl door trim inserts.

If you opt for the next trim level--the Altitude--you'll notice its exterior upgrades, which include 18-inch gloss Black aluminum wheels and blacked-out Altitude badging.

If you regularly face inclement weather, you can select the ready-for-anything Jeep Cherokee North Edition. With its refined 4x4 systems and weather-tested features, this Cherokee can effortlessly handle rough conditions, from storms and snow to ice.

Next, we have the Upland. This trim can be outfitted with 17-inch Black noise wheels, matte Black tow hooks, and distinctive Black badging with Desert Sky Blue tracer!

If you take it one step farther, you'll find the Limited trim level. This appealing SUV comes with premium Nappa leather-trimmed seats, a power liftgate, heated front seats and steering wheel, and an 8.4-inch touchscreen display.

If you're craving an aggressive performance to take on off-road trails, then choose the Trailhawk® trim. This adventure-ready SUV features optimized approach and departure angles, the Selec-Terrain® Traction Management System, Hill Descent Control, and a locking rear axle.

One step up from the Trailhawk® is the Trailhawk® Elite. Along with its traction-enhancing systems, it also comes with premium features, such as ventilated front seats, an Alpine® speaker system, and a power liftgate.

Lastly, there's the fully loaded High Altitude trim level. Thanks to its 19-inch painted Granite Crystal wheels, body-color fascias and Granite Crystal badging, and soft-touch leather-trimmed seats, the High Altitude has a commanding presence.
